Is this a puja??
Yes Pat, this is a puja done in the Sravana masam which falls in the month of August or September. This is similar to Karvachauth, done for long life of husband. We perform this puja in the morning with all the pakwans and offer them to god. We call a married woman to have food in the afternoon, i.e lunch. In the evening we call married women and give them " Tambulam " which is 3 bettle leaves, haldi and kumkum and flowers. You can also give anything extra like a gift or clothes too but tambulam is the main thing to give away. They visit the goddess i.e the idol on which we have performed puja and take blessings.R
Oh forgot to add that this is called Srvana sukravaram puja coz this is done in sravana masam and on friday which we call sukravaram in telugu. Hence the name.R
